Design Experience

February – August, 2021

I interned at Havas Media, a French media and buying company in Amsterdam, specializing in media space procurement for clients.

Typically, the internship spans 20 weeks full-time, but I was asked to extend it to 30 weeks. This extended period allowed me to further hone and develop my communication and design skills.

I take pride in the design projects I completed for Havas Media's clients, which I'll showcase and describe by brand below.

PHILIPS Signify

…is the brand that manages all of the PHILIPS lighting products.

I've worked on two projects from the PHILIPS Signify collection. I made banners for both the 'Lightstrips' and the 'Outdoor Lily' products, as well as the HPTO (homepage take-over) for one.

PHILIPS Signify Lily

PHILIPS Signify wanted to promote their product 'Outdoor Lily', so they needed some banners and a HPTO to be made.

You can see my process in the video below. Good to know, my favourite is the first version of HPTO version. You can see the hero product mix into the purple background lighting.

But the client wanted the images to be presented separately and also without the logos and other assets.

Final HPTO

PHILIPS Signify Lightstrip

Another request for some other sizes of banners came in. This time for the 'Lightstrip'. PHILIPS wanted the buttons and logos included in the images for these ones.

The first version was perfect so no other version were made. You can check them out below.

ATOUT FRANCE

…is the official agency for promoting and finding holidays destinations and tourist information about France and the French overseas locations.

I’ve worked on two projects from Atout France: a Digital Out Of Home (DOOH) campaign about CORSICA and a Social Media campaign on the 'SOUTHERN ALPS'. Attracting the target groups 'Empty Nesters' and 'families' in The Netherlands were the goal of these projects.

Briefing 1: CORSICA

Atout France urgently wanted to promote Corsica – an autonomous French island situated in the Mediterranean Sea. The brand wanted to do this through DOOH visuals on outdoor screens from Ocean Outdoor in The Netherlands.

Below you can find my process in three steps:

1) Edit

2) Create

3) Deliver

CORSICA editing process

First I started with adjusting the provided photos a little bit to pump up the saturation and vibrance to make accentuate vacation mode. Use the slider on the images below to see the differences. Left is the original, right is the adjusted version.

CORSICA designing process

After that, I played with the layout using some magazine and postcard aesthetics and vibes as well as paying attention to the legibility to see which the client preferred the most.

Early on I noticed that the spelling in the slogan "tuttù va bé" was wrong, checked it first with the client and changed it to "tuttù va bè. You can see the first versions below.

CORSICA delivery process

At first I delivered files with the wrong DPI. These had to be 72 DPI instead of 300. What I've learned from this as a first timer working on DOOH visuals is that it is important to know which end specifications are needed. Knowing this would've saved me some time.

Below you can find a selected few of the final deliverables. Some sizes were used for multiple screens which had the same specifications, so there's no need to present all of the files. I've made 52 images in total.

Briefing 2: Southern Alps

Atout France was very happy with how we were able to create deliverables for the CORSICA campaign on such short notice. So happy that they asked us to work on creating some social media content. This time for the SOUTHERN ALPS campaign.

Below you can find a collection of pictures provided by the client. Except for the first one with the castle, I was free to pick whatever I would think works the best with the content designs.

Below you can find my process in three steps:

1) Play

2) Create

3) Deliver

*Disclaimer: all of the images used for this project is owned by Atout France.

Below you can find a collection of images I was free to choose from.

Southern Alps designing process

At first I made a selection on the images I wanted to use and created 9 different visuals to see which style the client prefers. I was free to play with a variety of logo assets, images, style and layout. I played with some magazine, posters and postcard aesthetics. My favourite is the one with the mountain goat.

From the first feedback it turned out that the wrong sizes were communicated to me, so I had to redo everything to the right size.

Southern Alps designing process 2.0

The second feedback was that they wanted the logos bigger in the bottom part. From here they wanted to see a variation of my selected images and logo assets being used. The photo of the castle was already set by the client from the beginning. Unfortunately I couldn’t use the picture with the mountain goat, because of its width.

Southern Alps delivery process

In the end the client chose these visuals including the black 'Alpes' logo in combination with the 'Explore France' logo on a white bottom part. I noticed that the picture with the sunset had to be adjusted in order for the image to be legible, which they appreciated very much (view the sunset image to see the differences).

KIA

…KIA is a South Korean car brand that is part of the Hyundai Motor Company. They're engaged in the development and production of their own passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

I got the chance to work on two projects cool projects from KIA:

- Video Editing

- Content Design

KIA / Briefing

KIA initially asked if we could edit the subtitles in a VR test drive campaign video from English to Dutch. Good thing I know some After Effects.

KIA was very satisfied with the fact that a colleague and I were able to act and deliver swiftly. So much that they made a request for another project. This time we were asked to create Social Ads for their EV6 campaign.

I had so much fun working on these projects, because the communication then was great and quick, as well as the positive feedback.

Bolton Adhesives

…is the umbrella brand for four main adhesives brands, representing the best quality adhesives for everyday and-/or long term use. For securing and repairing to assembling and sealing airtight. Bolton Adhesives is a part of the Bolton Group which has many more brands.

I've worked on BISON and BISON KIDS, these brands are targeted only for the BENELUX. Next to this I've also worked on a BTS (Back-to-school) project collaboration between UHU and Pokémon.

You can find my work below.

BISON / Briefing

BISON had a urgent request for two social media videos (1:1 and 9:16) to be made in order to create awareness on their 'Groene Aanslag Vreter' product. These videos were made in After Effects. The only feedback was on how large they wanted the text to be.

and the 9:16 version for Instagram

After the final Dutch version were delivered, they needed different video ending for the Belgian market without the store names (Hubo & Bauhaus).

UHU / Briefing

For the 2021 – 2022 school year, a campaign has been launched to motivate parents and children to use UHU products for various glue jobs.

Various content has been created for this in order to put UHU's adhesive products in the spotlight. From social ads and contests to translating banners, posts and stop-motion videos.

My work has gone international and people liked my work, which is unreal!

Disclaimer: I did not create the stopmotions.

I just did the text editing to three sizes in to 5 languages (ES, DE, PT, IT, FR).

Although I had to cover the existing English steps with a new one,

because the masterfile did not allow me to edit directly in the text box.

So technically speaking, I maybe did half of these translated stop-motions after all?

Bison Kids / Briefing

Bison Kids is a subsidiary brand from Bison. It's brought to life to show and inspire kids and parents/caretakers what cool DIY projects can be made with the help of Bison adhesives. Such as a plastic bottle rocket, robot from cans or a milk carton birdhouse.

I've worked on this brand throughout my time at Havas Media, from creating Social Media content to designing roadmaps for the DIY projects.

In the end I made a poster compilation of all the projects we've done together with Bison Kids in the past year and send it to them as a form of gratitude.

Have a look at a variety of the selected work below.

The Bison Kids Crafts Collection

This poster was inspired by combining Tetris with the 'The Chair Collection' from Vitra Design Museum.

Tetris because of the playfulness and puzzles in combination with the different colour backgrounds.

The Vitra Design poster because its slick and cleanliness, compact style of showcasing all of the chairs they wanted to display.

JDE

… Jacobs Douwe Egberts is a well known international coffee company with Dutch roots. They specialise in coffee, tea and hot chocolate. They're the owner of the brands Douwe Egberts and L'or.

JDE / Briefing

Some colleagues asked me to create some visuals to support their 'Black Friday' concept proposal to JDE. The designs were made for the 'Douwe Egberts' and 'L'OR' brands.

JDE liked the visuals and thought it was refreshing, but the concept didn't fall into taste unfortunately.
